That's true, Chris. Keep in mind, Bush has reserved a huge chunk of money for hydrogen power research. No other president has done so.

Facts and musings that keep me humble and hopeful:
-War is bad.
-No country is worth dying for.
-The innocent have no say in this(Iraqi citizens).They will die at the hands of Americans/British.
-Death on either side of the war game is unecessary.
-Sept.11 was a great opportunity for the USA. to step outside the box and evolve antiquated political ideas and policies.The opposite is now occuring.
-Todays politics is so convoluted,in that the most apolitical members of society in any country are confused to the point of apathy.
-George W. technically isnt President.Holds the position by default.
-George W.is not a hands-on President.He is a figurehead of some old skool politicians who are calling the shots.
-The USA has not "won" a war since WW2.
-Forcing war on Iraq is illegal.
-Thus making the present American political office a terrorist cell.(technically,mind you)
-No country/continent has the right to be judge/jury towards the livlihood of another country/continent.
-A exceptional President(like those in business,in this case in politics)listens to the majority.World wide opposition to all this war mongering,should have been closely considered.
-I dont have all the facts as to EXACTLY why war is impending,but to boil it all down to the Nth degree-its about $$$oil$$$,with,im sure,a myriad of peripheral reasons that we dont know about.
-American artists are having their voices/opinions silenced.Very McCarthy like.What decade is this?
-America is a very great country that has offered the world a wealth of support over the years.Usually at those junctures,the USA was led by great leaders.
-By contrast,Bush is not a great leader.
-America is not the world.
-Americans should realize and humbly accept that they are regarded by most other countries as evil.
-CNN is the official Government propoganda forum.It is NOT a reliable source for news.
-Political parties do not impart the feeling of fear and at the same time deflect fear by sheer aggression.American citizens and people around the world should not have to live that way.
-Its an old idea to deflect internal strife(unemployment,empty political promises,stock market fluctuation,genocide{yes certain sectors of the USA are killing each other off},terrorist solutions) with war campaigns.The Chinese warlords of long ago invented that tactic.Doesnt work today in this everchanging world.
-Democracy does not work.
-Americans need more choice in political parties.
-Not all Americans are bad.Just the old guard that cling to ideals that incur suffering.
-In my country(Canada),our leaders have been torn as to what position to take in all this.For the first time in decades,we have unanomously decided to not ally with the USA.That announcement was made clear today.Im happy about that.It means we are preserving our country's future.There is no future in war.
-Celebrities are not the voice of the common man.
-Our world has a disproportionate amount of wealthy countries to poor countries.Terrorist activity is a banner to that notion.
-I predict George W. will be assasinated.(sorry,a bit morbid,but its being talked about.)
-Colin Powell, a once great hopeful leader,has sold out.
-Sinking an estimated $200 Billion into the war effort is despicable.Betcha you could cure that nagging poverty problem in the USA with that money.
-According to the UN,and thanx to Clinton,it is illegal to have nuclear capability.Remember the nuke weapons disarmament plan? I do.Bush does not.
-An enormous amount of Iraqis will be disenfranchised.Of course predictably enuff,the USA will swoop in and provide support to help the victims of a war that was unecessary.That is the greatest insult to humanity.
-Im hoping that whatever happens,that this moment will breed children who value the future,and cherish humanity as a whole.After the old guard die,and enough USA political families are revealed as the frauds that they are;The USA may have some great great leaders waiting in the wings;ones that will KNOW the mistakes of this and all other past wars.Future leaders that have a vision to their fellow brothers,and an eye and ear towards peaceful solutions.
-Your once signifigant country is being led to ruin by a madman.You should be pissed off and gravely concerned about that simple fact(shared by almost every other country),and u should be taking that out to the streets.To support Bush is to support evil.
-I really do in my heart hope that there is peaceful resolve,without hero fanfare.I am genuinely concerned about your safety down there.It would break my heart to see you all in harms way.
-Jesus/God,or whatever,will not bring peace.Only humanity can.

Go grab a loved one. Tell them you love them. Play your drums with love in your hearts. Send phsycic thoughts of comfort and safety to both Americans/Iraqis overseas. This war isn't just about oil. It's about stopping rogue states or dictators from getting and selling weapons of mass destruction. It's a different world now because because someone as powerful as Bill Gates could get the bomb . (Hopefully bill won't get Napolean syndrom)

Now, why are we (US) so Dumb?
Remember when the Japanese started building fuel efficient cars in the 70's when the oil embargo was going on and Americans were still driving gas guzzling ships for vehicles?.
Their economy sky rocketed and then we ganged up and said; lets buy American.
Well, the same is happening in Germany.
They are coming up with some alternative energy plans and yet again; America, the most powerful country sits there and votes in an oil man for the country.
When will we learn?
Don't be fooled by the money put into hydrogen research. The oil companies have deep pockets and don't want to loose their share in the market. However, I heard Ford is really working on it though, thank goodness!

The problem is that we are forced to be involved with oil because:
1. Almost everything is made with the damn stuff.
2. We need to keep importing it so other countries don't get all of it. (competition)

I guess if a rogue nation attacked Canada you'd hide under your drums and let your fellow countrymen do the fighting...oh wait a minute the U.S. would bail you out before you went to war. A lot of Americans and Canadians have given their lives so we don't have to live like the Iraqis. Sounds to me like you take freedom for granted. Moog, for the record, the UN went in to Africa twice in the last decade or so to try and stop genocide or warlords. Once in Rwanda for the ethnic cleansing and again in Somalia. (see Black Hawk Down book and movie)

I'm sure neither was considered a "success," but that fact remains that the UN/US did try to help.

Calling American evil is IMO laughable. Recently at a party a good friend of mine was being visited by 3 friends from Europe. (one French, two German.) She lived in Paris for some time in the mid 90s and met them there.

We got into a friendly discussion about politics; this was right in the midst of us bombing Afghanistan.

They all thought the US was this big country forcing it's will on others. After talking with me for about 90 minutes, they completely changed their mind. These other countries are influenced by the big mouth media and political activists (on all sides) as much as we are, but when you can sit face to face and discuss how you feel about an issue, all of a sudden everybody agrees.

Having said that, those who think the US is evil can suck a fat dick. I'm not saying this country is perfect, but the US people are always for helping anyone out anywhere in the world. We bombed the hell out of Milosovich and I didn't see my gas prices falling so STFU.

FACT: Bush IS and always has been a moronic, un-articulate charlatan and will be responsible for the death of countless INNOCENT Iraqi men, women and children.
The US is supposedly fighting terrorism. But Bush insists on spreading terror and fear to the American public. He is unwittingly supporting terrorism itself.
When will all of you gun-ho 'USA is best', 'let's go in and kick ass' lot get it into your heads? Fighting for peace is like f*cking for virginity: It doesn't work and will in the long run only cause more trouble, as It will surely escalate and have more repercussions around the world than Bush has considered.
Saddam Hussein (contrary to Bushs' hysterical speeches) does NOT pose a threat to world peace. The action by US and British special forces in Iraq breaches international law because it is not sanctioned by the UN.
For christ sake, America is the largest superpower on the planet and yet it has never needed more than half an excuse before it marches into countries 'in the name of peace' and murders the very people it claims that it is trying to protect.
I just hope that those for this illegal, hypercritical and unjust war will still be singing the same tune when all the reports of death to the INNOCENT people of Iraq and ALLIED soldiers start coming in.
This war will cost the US tax payer BILLIONS of dollars. Money that can and should be better spent sorting out its OWN affairs. The rich, predominantly white, upper classes are getting richer, while the poor are getting taxed to the hilt and shat on. Do you really think that your money is being well spent?

To everyone, bear in mind that in this day there are THREE sides to every issue: the 'pros', the 'cons', and the 'dividers' who serve only to keep the pros and cons fighting each other. It's BIBLICAL, folks. I would argue that eddrumming, who started this post, is a divider. He covered his tracks well by following up with a complimentary post re: Steve.

Dividers thrive on anger. If they can push your buttons, pro or con, then they have succeeded. The more angry we are, the less we THINK. It's easier to stand and accuse, than to stand accused.

I don't think I've made that many pro Bush statements. I hear what you're saying about how we'd like to be perceived vs. the actions of the USA. It's a fair point that the US doesn't "mind it's own business" as much as other countries. I'm not saying I agree with all the reasons we've been given by our government as to why we're attacking Iraq.

What I was (and am) saying is that while I'm not a huge fan of Bush, he wouldn't take us to war with another country without good reason. You may disagree with that and I respect that as I cannot provide hard evidence to back up my point. I can only say that they wouldn't take the country to war without good reasons. I know he's not doing our image any favors and believe it or not, he knows it too.

I guess my point is, plenty of people hate the US worldwide for the same reasons Canadians have made fun of the US for years. We come across (as a country) as arrogant, bossy, pushy, opinionated people who can't mind their own business and leave others alone. Fair enough. [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Show me another country that would come to the Philipines aid as quickly as the US were it attacked. Keep that in mind please as well. I didn't see everyone else rushing to help out in Kosovo. Please explain to me why that was policially motivated for our govt. Explain to me what votes our govt gained from helping in Kosovo or Somalia.

BTW, I'm a hard core gamer as well and have been since I was a kid. (I'm 29) I've seen plenty of debates in the gaming community but to be honest, I've rarely seen an intelligent point made to prove the US is the evil warmongering country it's made out to be.

Bottom line, you say the current govt is evil, please provide examples of such. Please post links of the atrocities this government has commited against society. Post examples of all the other countries that design battle plans to minimize civilian casualties. Given how much we're dislike or even hated, it shouldn't be hard to find the accounts of these events on the net from reputable publications all over the world.
